Speaker's Corner
Very interesting goings on.

If you are aware, there will be another similar event next Sunday.

If you get a chance, have a read up on what is happening and why.

Apparently a load of reactionary right wing nutters sharing a shouting match of ill-informed abuse with a group of just as reactionary left wing nutters

They should have come here and stayed out of the cold.

I’m going to bet it was one of the least interesting things to happen in the history of the universe.

Standing up for free speech not your thing?

Tommy Robinson reading a banned speech by one of them "far right" Americans who were deported last week.

My mate was gonna go up there but couldn't be arsed cos of the snow.

Re: Speaker's Corner
A load of racist cunts hanging around grumbling about free speech because they're not alowed to go around being openly racist elsewhere because it's illegal?

Sounds like a good day out for some of the pond life on here.

Fingers crossed one of the many opposing groups of nutters wipes them out in one go next time they turn out.

So what happened, anyroad?

Re: Speaker's Corner
I went up there years ago and there was this bloke standing on a soap box, not saying owt, but he had a sandwich board saying "it's going to get worse".
I asked "what is?" and he said "anything you can think of, is going to get worse".

Upon quizzing him further on this, it turns out the only reason he was doing it was because his psychiatrist had told him to go out and meet people, and he thought it was a good conversation starter.

There appears to be a double standard here.
How many hateful speeches from Choudary And pro Islam marches, with Isis flags and anti western rhetoric have we had to witness in the name of free speech?

If you allow one you have to allow the other or shut them both down. Or would that be racist?

On The Ball 10:08 Sun Mar 18
Re: Speaker's Corner
But isn't the issue that they weren't allowed in to do that? Choudary is, as is Robinson.

Len

It was an Austrian. He was arrested, detained for three days and deported for trying to make a speech.

The speech was in no way racist and he is not a member of a proscribed group.

Re: Speaker's Corner
There was another arrested this morning apparently. A German - one of the founders of Pegida.

Do none of you find this even remotely shocking, that our police are using schedule 7 of the terrorism act to arrest and detain people who have committed no crime?

In one case the police admitted to the girl's father that they had arrested her under the terrorism act but that they know she is not a terrorist.

The speech today was important, not the content, it was pretty mild stuff to be honest.

Robinson was removed from Speaker's corner earlier in the week and again today.

That Lauren Southern was stopped and rejected cos of a previous publicity stunt where she set up a stall in Luton handing out flyers with a gay bloke which said "Allah is gay".

This was a direct repsonse to a Vice article which argued that Jesus was gay.

Say what you like about The Rebel Media (her employer), detaining and deporting journalists for satire is the sort of thing you'd expect from Erdogan or Putin, not in the UK.

As far as I'm aware, no Vice journos have been detained under terrorism acts and banned from the country yet.
